71st Independence Day was celebrated by NMPT at the JNC Hall, Panambur. The Chairman i/c, Shri. Suresh P. Shirwadkar congratulated the participants and their families on the occasion and reviewed the march past of the contingents.

In his speech, the Chairman i/c talked about the role played by NMPT to spearhead the Exim trade from Karnataka and its pride is being the “Gateway to Karnataka” for the last 42 years. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Shipping, several new initiatives were introduced by NMPT to not just improve the productivity, efficiency and safety of Port operations, but to also retain the ecological balance both on shore and off shore. The introduction of New Captive Policy guidelines in 2016 has helped to ensure uniformity and transparency in the procedure for awarding captive facilities in the Port. The berthing policy which came into effect in August 2016 provides standardized homework for calculating norms, specific to the commodity handled and the infrastructure available at the berth. Further, the New stevedoring policy and the introduction of the Major Port Authorities Bill will result in more professional governance in the port.

Amongst the green initiatives of the Port, the commissioning of the 4 MW solar plant, Roof top solar generation in the Adm building, hospital building and Guest house,  Illumination  of NH 66 with LED street lights from Kudremukah Junction to Bykampady  Bridge and the provision of the solar power  system with a 5 year comprehensive maintenance  at a School in Bantwal are note worthy.

While improving the capacity, productivity and efficiency in handling cargo, NMPT also fulfills its corporative social responsibility with the same zeal and commitment. The officers and staff of NMPT pledged their efforts towards Nation Building, by striving towards perfection, to be at the fore front of Port and Port Led development.
