JNPT & BMCTPL (PSA Intl.) signs Concession Agreement for development of 4th Container Terminal

Date: 19/08/2017

The Concession Agreement for development of 4th Container Terminal was signed between JNPT with M/s BMCTPL (PSA International) on 6th May, 2014 and the concession was awarded on 22nd December 2014.  The construction and development of this new Mega Container Terminal included reclamation of more than 100 hectares of water front , dredging and civil construction work etc. The task was quite challenging as there was ‘Congestion’ on the port roads as reclamation work required round trips of more than 2000 dumpers on daily basis. However, the port ensured that all such activities were carried out in a smooth and hassle-free environment.

Both JNPT and BMCTPL take pride in the progress of the project, which stands now at 86% of the  total work of the project and are confident that the project will be completed as per scheduled date.

M/s BMCTPL faced the challenge of meeting the demands of   “Sarwa-pakshiya Committee” representing the Project Affected Persons (PAPs) regarding employment opportunities. At the request of M/s BMCTPL, the Port conducted a number of joint meetings with Sarwa-pakshiya Committee to resolve the issue in a democratic manner. M/s BMCTPL is under contractual obligation to give preference to PAPs in providing employment, provided eligibility conditions are fulfilled.

The incident of 10th August is the first instance wherein democratic manner of resolving issues was not followed, which is condemned.

Port authorities and Ministry of Shipping have taken this issue very seriously and action to book every culprit has already been started.

To safeguard the installation of PSA, deployment of 12 CISF persons have been done. Regarding deployment of CISF for Terminal Operations, survey work has already been done to freeze the requirement of CISF and proposal is submitted to MHA.

The advertisement for recruitment at BMCTPL was published in the local newspapers and on the website of BMCTPL.  About 9000 applications have been received, of which 800 candidates are fulfilling the eligibility criteria. About 662 candidates appeared for online test. Medical tests are in progress and the offers will be given in next couple of days.

BMCTPL is committed to provide the jobs to local JN Port Project Affected People .
