Kandla International Container Terminal (KICT), an Infrastructure Project set up by the J M Baxi Group, has added yet another feather to its crown.

On 4th January 2018, m.v. SCI Mumbai V386 of M/s. Shipping Corporation of India Ltd., called KICT. This was the first Coastal service call into Kandla. The vessel has the loading capacity of 48000 MT and that gives leverage to the trade to utilize vessel space optimistically. This vessel with 262.07 meters was the lengthiest vessel to call at KICT & DPT.

This is one of the vessel operated by SCI in the SMILE service with port rotation:Kandla - Mundra - Pipavav - Cochin - Tuticorin. The partners in the SMILE service consortium are M/s. Shipping Corporation of India and M/s. Shreyas Shipping (Transworld Group).

This will be an added advantage to the trade, as it connects South and North India via Major Port gateway  -  Kandla International Container Terminal. With Smile service, the Kandla International Container Terminal will be the best positioned gateway with its natural geographical proximity to the cargo generating areas of Morbi, Surendra Nagar, Rajkot, Rapar etc in Gujarat.

With KICT having its own Rail siding inside the terminal, domestic cargo will also get connected to/from all the ICD’s.

On this auspicious occasion Mr. K. K. Krishnadas, PRESIDENT & COO, ICTIPL, welcomed the Master of the vessel along with the officials from SCI, DPT & Transworld and thanked for all their support to have the service into KICT.  He mentioned that with this move by the consortium the trade will be very happy as KICT is the closest terminal to the hinterland and this will in the coming days help in reduction in cost to the end customer. He assured that KICT will provide international standard service to all its customers.
