Navi Mumbai - Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India’s No.1 Container Port, has achieved a growth of 34.44% in October 2016 over October last year, in the number of containers delivered under Direct Port Delivery (DPD) format. It is a growth of 7.40% over September’16. The Government is promoting the DPD from container terminals as a major step towards reducing cost of transaction at ports.  JNPT has eased up the norms and procedure for EXIM trade covered under ACP to clear more containers under DPD. The total numbers of ACP clients who have registered for DPD with the JNPT have increased to 52 in the month of October 2016 against 11 ACP clients in the month of February 2016, mainly due to the removal of minimum volume ceiling to be qualified for availing DPD.

JNPT’s another initiative of Inter-Terminal Transfer (ITT) of Tractor Trailers has also helped in reducing the traffic on Port roads up to 10% and optimal utilization of transport resources. Under ITT facility, total 13,365 trucks completed 17,260 transactions in October’2016, while April- October period showed a total of 1.21 lakh trucks with 1.44 lakh transactions.

In the month of October’2016, JN Port handled total volume of 3.68 lakh TEUs.  JNPCT (port-owned container terminal) handled 1.29 lakh TEUs showing a cumulative growth of 10.58% growth.
